Discover Bruton: Drawing Matter at Stockwell House—6—12 June 2026

On Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 June, Drawing Matter will be based at Stockwell House, Bruton, to run a series of free workshops for Bruton residents and visitors to the town. Using drawings from the Drawing Matter Collection, the workshops will explore different ways that drawing can be used to gather and record information about the built environment and how it is experienced. Following the weekend of workshops, participants’ drawings will be exhibited at Stockwell House (Wednesday 10 June—Friday 12 June).
These events are part of Stockwell House’s reopening weekend, which follows its recent renovation. Find more about future programming here.
Weekend Programme

We will be running two workshops that explore alternative methods of recording space. Using drawings by Peter Wilson, Jessie Brennan, Walter Marchetti, Guy Debord, Publica, and Sheila O’Donnell (O’Donnell and Tuomey) as prompts, participants will be encouraged to experiment with the ways in which they represent their local environments through drawings and rubbings.
On Saturday and Sunday afternoon, we will be open for the public to look at drawings from the collection and participate in a collaborative drawing exercise, ‘Every Building on Bruton High Street’ (inspired by Ed Ruscha’s approach to documenting the Sunset Strip in California). We encourage people of all ages and artistic abilities to participate.
All materials will be provided.
