Collection

The Collection catalogue describes over 20,000 objects—drawings, models, collages, photographs, and publications, dating from the Renaissance onwards. These relate principally to architecture, but there are also significant holdings around theatre, cinema, costume, metalware, furniture, landscape and urban design.

Catalogue entries include digital images, and can be identified using search terms with filters, or through Groups curated by the DM team. For each architect, there is often an associated ‘Paper File’ which contains supplementary material. Further to this, there is an unfolding project of publishing Research Guides, which offer a more general context to a particularly significant drawing or set of drawings, an individual architect, or an architectural movement; each is written by an invited scholar who holds a special interest and knowledge in each case.

The descriptive information included in the Collection catalogue is not advanced as definitive; in many cases, we have included in the ‘Paper File’ notes written at different times, by divergent voices. Like the Collection itself, the catalogue is an open work—we invite you to engage and to suggest comments yourself at registrar@drawingmattercollections.com

For a different point of entry into the Collection, we encourage you to explore Texts , a repository of over 1200 texts many of which address individual drawings and themes from the Collection, as well as related material held in archives and collections elsewhere.
