This audio recording documents a workshop on Álvaro Siza’s Malagueira sketchbook delivered by Manuel Montenegro to Masters students from the School of Engineering and Architecture, Fribourg, and their tutors Patricia Guaita and Raffael Baur. The sketchbook is a record of Siza’s thoughts and responses over three days in 1977, on his first visit to the site of his most ambitious social housing project, on which he was to work for the next 25 years. It is also the first in the series of A4 notebooks which he has kept ever since – of which there are now over 700
